Turning your passion into a fulfilling health care career

Many people associate health care with doctors and nurses in hospitals and other high-profile medical environments. While these sort of jobs do form the bulk of health care career choices, there’s actually a lot more to the world of health care. You can be something other than a doctor or nurse. From teaching yoga to providing counseling, there are lots of ways that you can work in health care and help people.

As a kid I wanted to be just like my dad and be a doctor.  It turns out the cards dealt another hand for me. Biology class was not my friend so in the end I chose to teach yoga and help people. I love teaching yoga, it fulfils me, it makes me feel like I am actually helping someone better themselves.

Some Other Jobs in the Healh Care Field

Teach yoga

Yoga is a good way to keep physically healthy, but it is about much more than just health. It is also a lifestyle that promotes mental wellbeing. It is used by many as a way to become more reflective and ultimately happier. Yoga is not only about the physical moves but the mind set.

If you’re a person who likes to maintain both the physical and spiritual sides of their health, considering a switch into teaching yoga is definitely worth doing. Teaching yoga in a class-based format or in my case a private format. Yoga class is also a great way to meet new people in your community and learn from them. There are definitely wider benefits to choosing a profession such as this than just career advancement and feeling healthier. Teaching yoga also provides me with a flexible schedule so that I can also spend lots of time with my kids.

Deliver physical therapy

When people suffer an injury, often controlled and supervised movement is a good way to help their body to heal and get back to normal. If you’re interested in exercise or sport, there may well be an opportunity for you to turn this passion into a way to assist people in regaining their routines in a faster amount of time. Sports therapy, for example, is a great way to help sportspeople get back onto the field or pitch through a mixture of techniques, including everything from basic massaging to more complex methods such as electrotherapy.

If You are A Great Listener

Consider counseling

Some people are known to be great listeners, and it’s likely that you have one or two friends or family members that will always listen to you. However, if you find that you often like to take on the listening role, counseling may be for you. As a counselor, you would be responsible for helping people with their mental and psychological health. It starts with listening to people talk about their feelings, emotions, and worries. There are a-lot of different types of counseling, so it may be worth speaking to a professional organization that provides continuing medical education in order to find a route that works for you.

No matter what your passion might be, there’s likely to be a way that you can convert it into an amazing skill with the potential to change someone’s life and turn their health care outcomes around. Whether you’re a top listener with the capacity to help someone going through mental health problems or a sports fanatic who loves nothing more than working with other sporty types to help them get fit again, there’s a health care career out there for you.

I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! If you are passionate about helping people one of the above careers might be for you. Namaste!
