On the Quest for a Great Protein Bar!

photo 4 I try to eat food in as close to it’s natural state as possible, but I am such a sucker for a good tasting protein bar. Protein bars are easy to tote, make great mid day snacks, are good for keeping your blood sugar steady and can help keep you from scarfing a candy bar at 3pm. The problem is many protein bars are just candy bars in disguise, loaded with sugar and high in saturated fat.

A good protein bar should have at least 10 grams of protein or more, contain zero to little saturated fat, provide some fiber, be low in sugar and within the 150-200 calorie range. I’ve discovered an incredible tasting bar that is also unbelievably healthy called Quest. I am seriously addicted to these tasty morsels and find myself craving one every afternoon.

Quest bars are made from whey protein, almonds, water and stevia. The bars come in a variety of flavors from chocolate chip cookie dough to white chocolate raspberry to apple pie. There are also some peanut butter flavors and a delicious coconut cashew bar. The most recent addition to the family is the cookies and cream. I think the chocolate chunk is one of my favorites right now, but I seriously love them all. 

Some people swear by microwaving or baking quest bars. I personally like mine somewhat chilled and often keep them in the freezer then take one out about 20 minutes before I eat it. You’ll have a blast watching the 15second recipes Quest has on YouTube. I have yet to try one of the creative concoctions; I definitely need to though, my mouth waters every time I watch one.
