NOT Your Boring Oatmeal Options!
Oats are a whole grain cereal with a ton of health benefits; yet, I feel like they’ve gotten a bad wrap over the years. Oatmeal is sometimes thought of as bland or something you picture your grandmother eating; but oatmeal can be anything but bland!
First, let’s discuss the health benefits of eating oatmeal:
- High in Fiber: Oats contain almost 11% of fiber and are a good source of a unique type of fiber called beta-glucan, which is associated with a range of health benefits.
- Oats are a good source of quality protein, ranging from 11-17% by dry weight, which is higher than most other grains
- Oats are high in many vitamins and minerals
- …and much more!
I find when I regularly eat oats, my digestion is improved and my energy level is more consistent after a meal containing oatmeal. I love incorporating oats into my diet as a healthy breakfast base, or even a snack! There’s so many fun and creative ways you can incorporate oats into your diet. Below are just some of my favorites:
Stylish Spoon Oatmeal Chia Cups:
This is one of my favorite quick breakfast options. These delicious oatmeal chia cups comes in both blueberry and chocolate chip. Made with natural sweeteners and ingredients, they’re perfect for adults and kids. Each cup has only 150 calories, so they also make for the perfect sized snack, or healthy dessert! For breakfast, I like to pair these delicious oatmeal cups with eggs and if I’m on-the-go, I’ll just boil some eggs the night before to take with me.
Drink your Oats: The Kitchn has some amazing smoothie recipes that include oats.
Savory Oatmeal: Doesn’t everything taste better with an egg on it? Well, the same goes for oatmeal! I love this savory oatmeal with cheddar and fried egg recipe from Healthy Nibbles & Bites because it combines savory and sweet flavors.
Cookie Dough Overnight Oats: Cookie dough, need I say more?
Play with your Food: For kids (or kids at heart!), I love the idea of turning your everyday oatmeal into a fun design like this bunny oatmeal!
For my oatmeal creations, I like to use Bakery on Main’s Happy Oats! Bakery on Main has the simple mission to make people happy – you don’t get much better than that. All their oats are gluten free, so they’re safe for everyone to eat.
These are just some of my favorite ways to use oats, but I’m always looking for more. If you have any great oatmeal creations, please leave a comment below and let me know!
