My Morning Routine!
I’ve always been a morning person and now with three little boys, I’m definitely an even earlier riser. If I want some extra me-time I usually need to wake up around 5 am. I love to start my day with some peace and quiet. In the early morning, I can meditate and connect with myself, do a little movement, and nourish myself before the kids wake up and I’m on full mom duty. I want to make sure I can just sit and snuggle without anything else to do.
Before the boys wake up
The very first thing I do in the morning is stretch in bed. I have a fun little routine:
- Start with arms clasped overhead and stretch from head to toes. Wiggle the body a bit and really open everything up.
- Then press the hands straight up to the sky.
- Supine twist to each side.
- Happy baby pose.
- Legs overhead like a plow hamstring stretch.
- Roll out of bed.
Next, I like to practice nauli breathing. It’s a type of cleansing breath that is good for digestion and abdominal strength.
- Begin with your feet hip-width apart, bend your knees, place your hands on your knees, and take a deep breath in through the nose.
- Exhale out the mouth and hold your breath out; create a vacuum, sucking everything up and into the rib cage.
- Try pumping your abs out and in with the breath held out. Inhale stand up and repeat 3-5 times.
Next, I’ll write in a journal. I’ll make a list of things I’m looking forward to in the day; as well as write down some wins from the day before.
I’ll roll out my mat and do a more formal yoga practice concentrating on sun salutations and standing poses, handstand practice, and hip openers.
Now I’m ready for breakfast and coffee! While I’m getting my meal ready, I always pop a Ritual multivitamin. I take one every morning. After the kids are awake
My favorite time in the mornings is when the boys and I snuggle up on the couch. It starts all of our days off right – there’s just so much love in the room! Sometimes we throw on cartoons while we cuddle, other mornings we just chat – I love it regardless.
At this point, the boys are fully awake and ready to get their days going as well! On slower mornings sometimes they like to help me make breakfast. Our favorite on a slow day is definitely pancakes; but they also love organic sausage, yogurt, and cereal. (I’m so grateful my boys aren’t picky eaters!)
Finally, it’s time to get the boys dressed and ready for their days. We pick out their clothes together and I help them get dresses. All three of the boys are currently virtual learning. It gives us a little extra time in the morning, instead of rushing us out the door for school.
I split my time between home school mom and getting my own work down. I feel refreshed, energized, and ready to take on whatever comes our way.
