Guest Blog – I Gained 21 Pounds Since Thanksgiving
I gained 21 pounds since Thanksgiving…
And I’m a tennis professional.
For those who don’t me, my name is Scott Baxter and I run PlayYourCourt.com, a nationwide tennis business that sends tennis coaches to any court of your choice.
Think Uber, but for tennis lessons.
Anyway, as you can imagine when you’re the face of a tennis company, it doesn’t help to have three chins.
The holiday season is always brutal on my body.
Eating poorly, working out less, perhaps a few too many beers here and there, you know the drill.
Just like most of America, the first week of January is when I look in the mirror and decide that I’m going to get back in shape.
I’m a pretty competitive guy, so playing tennis and basketball are usually my go-tos when it comes to burning calories. I absolutely HATE running.
My wife who also hates running (one of the many reasons we’re perfect for each other) has worn a Fitbit for almost a year and swears by it to keep in shape.
Even though it’s always seemed to work for my wife, in my mind walking a certain amount of steps in a day didn’t really qualify as exercise. I always thought Fitbits were kind of a joke… that is, until my wife made me wear hers for a day.
There’s a little more psychology to it than I thought, especially for a competitive brain like mine.
For those of you that have never heard of a Fitbit – it’s a cool little gadget you wear on your wrist that tracks your daily steps, miles walked, calories in and out, sleep quality and an array of other things.
But all of these things aren’t what got me.
You see anytime you peek at this little gadget it shows you how many steps you’ve walked that day.
So for a competitive brain like mine, everyday life turned into a game to see how many steps I could walk.
Stairs or elevator – stairs.
Cab or walk it – walk.
And each decision made me feel like I was winning some sort of a game.
It was exactly what I needed to be more active and get back on the road to healthy living without suffering through workouts that I would just abandon in a week like I do every January.
Making healthier choices all of a sudden turned into a game.
After one day of wearing my wife’s Fitbit, I ordered one for myself and I’m already down 3 pounds in 5 days!
At the end of the day if I haven’t gotten my steps in, this little gadget peer-pressures me into taking the dog for a walk or walking up and down the stairs just to hit my step and calorie count.
So why am I telling you all of this?
I know a lot of you are just like me and are looking to get back in shape after the holiday season.
Well this combo of playing some tennis and peer pressure from my Fitbit is rapidly helping me get back in shape…
So I decided to put together a little deal for you so that we can get in shape together this January.
If you commit to 12 tennis lessons with a PlayYourCourt coach, I will send you a Fitbit Flex for free.
Jump on the court, play some tennis with one of our top-rated instructors, let this little gadget peer pressure you into making healthier life choices off the tennis court…
And I promise you will be amazed by the results!
If you live in an area where it’s too cold outside for tennis, don’t sweat it – you can buy your lessons now to get your free Fitbit and take them when it warms up in the spring.
If you have any questions about our service, or just want to chat about how fit you can get by playing tennis give us a call at 301.575.6112.
