I recently wrote about the importance of slowing down. For me, slowing down also includes simplifying things to make everyday life just a little bit easier. I spend a lot of my day out of the house and instead of worrying about when and where I’m going to be able to find a healthy meal, I like to just keep a couple of healthy snacks hidden in my purse to hold me over when needed. It sounds so simple, but it really takes a lot of stress out of the day – if I’m running around working, playing with Timothy and doing chores until late afternoon, I don’t have to worry about finding and fitting in time for lunch. I can just reach into my purse for a snack to tide me over. Summertime can be a little trickier just because with the heat, I can’t carry around things such as cheese snacks and yogurt. Instead I have these key go-to snacks that I know won’t melt or spoil in the heat:
Mix My Own Cereal: I love this product, it’s such a cool idea – it’s a website where you can create your own cereal!! They have gluten free and grain free options as well. Each 16oz bag is about $10 (price depends on what you create), so it’s a little pricey, but totally worth the splurge. Makes for a great breakfast, or I put some in a ziplock bag and take it with me to snack on throughout the day.
Crazy Richards Single Serve Peanut Butter: I rely on these for long days out of the house when I need a quick pick-me-up. These cute little single servings of peanut butter are loaded with healthy fat and some protein to help get me through crazy, busy days. I’m a HUGE fan of all of Crazy Richard’s products.
Sakara Life Granola: Sakara Life has 3 types of organic granola mixes and each are equally as healthy and delicious, boasting different “super foods.” The chocolate is amazing when I’m craving something sweet. I like to keep a little baggy of their granola in my hand bag for when hunger comes on.
The Good Bean Roasted Chickpeas: These roasted chickpeas are the perfect combination of salty and sweet! They come in many flavors, but my favorite is the classic sea salt flavor. Chickpea’s have a natural sweetness to them and combined with the salt, they’re just delicious! Another good snack that won’t melt in your bag 🙂
It’s Kale Chips: This is my go-to when I’m craving something crunchy with a hint of salt. These are definitely the best kale chips I’ve tried because they actually taste like chips. They also have chia seeds so you get a an extra boost of healthy Omega 3’s.
The Yes Bars: They’re called bars, but I think of them more as healthy cookies! Yes Bars are made with only natural, healthy ingredients. The base is grains and nuts and they’re naturally sweetened with maple syrup – they’re gluten free, grain free, soy free, dairy free. Each “bar” only has about 7 grams of sugar and lots of healthy fats, so Yes Bars are a treat you can feel good about eating anytime of day.
Smartfood Popcorn: I am addicted to popcorn! I could eat an entire bag in one sitting. I love that popcorn is low fat, high in fiber, and very filling for only 35 calories a cup. Smartfood just came out with a sweet and spicy delight flavor and it is SO tasty. I portion it out in little baggies and bring it on the go with me. Popcorn is a great snack when I’m anxious or just need a tide me over.
Let thy Food: I’m obsessed with these new dips! From Spinach and Artichoke to Chili Con Queso, they pair deliciously with rice crackers, veggies, pitas, you name it. They are all 100% plant based and Non-GMO as well as have zero added sugars, starch, fillers or preservatives. The founders are raising $ now for their kickstarter campaign and I hope to see these sold everywhere soon.
